It was a very special moment when we filled our first casks on thursday afternoon. The photo shows Malcolm Rennie, distillery manager, filling the very first cask of Kilchoman new spirit into a fresh bourbon barrel. We filled a total of 7 casks (3 fresh and 4 refill bourbon barrels).

We are delighted with the quality of the new spirit - 'a peaty malt, with wood smoke. Creamy freshly malted barley aromas followed by hints of citrus fruit and lemon lime'. It could develop quite quickly and even be ready at 4/5 years. It will now be a question of keeping a close eye on it as it develops in cask.
